"Pipe Dreams"

A surreal collectors piece, painted specifically to go in it's ornate frame.
The frame was salvaged by my friend in Jupiter from a wealthy home that was throwing it away...
It's 47" x 59" deep relief gold leave frame stock. Whether the leafing is real gold or simulated
is hard to determine...but considering the source it may well be.

It's a bit funky with a ding or three but that's what I like about it and what inspired me to paint
a stylized, symbolic and surreal beach front vision to juxtapose with the frames scruffy glory.
(the frame would run about $800 as a new frame even if the gold leaf is not 24k).

The painting is acrylic on wood 38"x50" with a shiny varnish finish.
I would place a value of $1600

"End Of Ais"
48"x63" acrylic on old weathered plywood and varnished

$760

SOLD

It's my interpretation of an Ais Indian Warrior.
The Ais were the local per-Colombian ancient people
that made their home here on the barrier island coasts of central Florida
from Cape Canaveral to Jupiter inlet. The original namesake for the Indian River,
the Rio De Ays or River of Ais was the name written on maps as old as 1560.
A true hunter gatherer society that was one of the oldest tribes and the most dominant
of the east coast of Florida. A stone age people, fierce, free and independent,
they refused to submit to the European occupation and for that stance were killed,
enslaved and succumbed to disease until by the early 1700's were extinct as a people.
Information is spread out and still being revealed as to the complex society
of the Ais who were reported to be amazing waterman that hunted whale from
dugout canoe, by hand, leaping on to the whales back and driving wooden plugs
into to the blow hole to suffocate the enormous animals. They were complex
mound builders that maintained several large cities along the length of the River of Ais.

The figure watches the first landing party of Spanish Conquistadors comes ashore,
not knowing that the end of their very existence was coming along with the storm.
